You inspired kids through Summer Science Camp!

Thank you for inspiring kids through science summer camp!

Again this summer, a group of lucky students from Chapel Hill Academy (CHA), Lena Pope’s tuition-free, public charter school in southwest Fort Worth, got to attend Summer Science Camp. And as you can see from these photos, it was a great time of learning and hands-on fun!

But even more than learning and fun, Science Summer Camp is a way to inspire students by giving them experiences they might not otherwise have. For some, this meant leaving their neighborhood for the first time. For others, it meant the first time they’d ever seen a place like Globe Life Field or the Fort Worth Zoo.

According to Rolando Sifuentes, camp director and Middle School Computer Science teacher and Technical Specialist at CHA, “Science Summer Camp is all about inspiring a child to think and dream big. It was just amazing to watch the eyes of our kids light up as they discovered new things and went to new places during camp.”

Thank you for helping make Science Summer Camp possible for so many deserving kids!

Thoughts from our teachers

“The students lost track of time, and truly engaged in the activities. They challenged each other, and wanted to continue doing science experiments during their breaks. This program promotes positivity and allows the students to apply, grow, and experience things they may not have experienced this summer” —Shawnte Mess, Math Specialist/7th Grade Math Teacher

“I feel so grateful to be part of this program. All of my colleagues are very dedicated and professional educators. Everyone is vested in the program and the students. The students have a great enthusiasm for learning and forming new friendships. Camp has been a light of hope in my professional career. I was able to share my love for plants and the environment, which is so critical at this time as our students become our citizens of the future.” —Mrs. Wetmore, Reading Tutor

“I love Science Summer Camp! I love the small groups of students, and the chance to create an entire day’s lesson full of learning and fun. I also love taking our students on field trips to places they may not be able to visit otherwise, and seeing the kids have fun at school and spark a joy for explorative learning.” —Miranda Cole, 3rd Grade Science/Social Studies Teacher
