Current Volunteer Opportunities

How to Become a Lena Pope Volunteer

  1. Complete the Application: Choose your desired volunteer opportunity and fill out the application. It will be sent directly to our Director of Volunteer Services.
  2. Phone Interview: Schedule a phone interview with our Director. Please notify your references that they will be contacted.
  3. Receive Approval: You’ll receive an approval email with additional paperwork, volunteer manuals, and links to training sessions on Sexual Abuse Prevention and Trauma-Informed Care (this training counts toward 2 hours of your volunteer commitment).
  4. Attend Orientation: Participate in the Lena Pope Volunteer Orientation, available either virtually or in-person (1 hour).
  5. Schedule Your Shifts: Coordinate your volunteer shifts with our Director.
  6. Start Volunteering: Get ready to make a difference!

Receptionist Help

Description: Serve as the welcoming face for clients visiting for counseling services.

Duties: Greet clients and visitors, communicate with counselors about arrivals, answer phones, and perform some administrative tasks like making copies.

Prerequisites: Application, interview, background check, orientation, online training (including sexual abuse prevention), and on-the-job training.

Scheduling Availability: 3-hour shifts available Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Preference given to volunteers who can commit to weekly service.

Location: Moncrief Building at 3001 Sanguinet St, Fort Worth

Time Commitment: 6-month minimum with at least 20 hours in that time.

Other Details: Staff members will always be close by to check on you and answer any questions.


Early Learning Center Volunteer

Description: Assist our staff and support students during their learning day. Our students have valuable knowledge to share, even if they can’t read yet! Students range from infants to preschoolers.

Duties: Be flexible and help with tasks such as printing, preparing crafts, assisting teachers, reading to kids, and keeping the Early Learning Center organized.

Prerequisites: Application, interview, background checks, fingerprinting, orientation, and 3 hours of online training (including sexual abuse prevention).

Scheduling Availability: 2-hour shifts available Monday-Friday from 9:00-11:00 AM and 3:00-5:00 PM. Preference for volunteers who can commit to weekly service.

Locations:

  • 3200 Sanguinet St, Fort Worth
  • 3620 Modlin Ave, Fort Worth

Time Commitment: 6-month minimum with at least 20 hours in that time.

Other Details: For safety, volunteers cannot be alone with a child; Lena Pope staff will always be present.


Teach Our Preschoolers

Description: Share your passion, skill, or profession with toddlers and preschoolers by showcasing your hobby, job, or culture.

Duties: Conduct a 10-30 minute lesson and engage with a group of sixteen 3-5 year olds, including an interactive craft or activity related to your lesson.

Prerequisites: Application, interview, background checks, orientation, and 3 hours of online training (including sexual abuse prevention).

Scheduling Availability: Contact the director to coordinate a schedule that works for you and the children. Availability is needed during school hours, particularly between 9:30-11:00 AM and 3:15-4:15 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Plan 1-2 months in advance. Sessions can be one-time, annual, or more frequent, depending on your topic and availability.

Locations:

  • 3620 Modlin Ave, Fort Worth

Time Commitment: 2-3 classes, each for about 30 minutes

Other Details: Examples of classes include professions (e.g., firefighter, zookeeper), cultures (e.g., Hanukkah, Lunar New Year), and hobbies (e.g., gardening, music). Experts in beginner Spanish and music are especially sought after. For safety, volunteers cannot be alone with a child; Lena Pope staff will always be present.


Administrative Help

Description: Assist the administrative team in School and Community Based Services, supporting hundreds of families and managing paperwork.

Duties: Organize files, maintain records, enter client data, schedule appointments, audit client files, and more. You’ll receive guidance throughout your tasks.

Prerequisites: Application, interview, background checks, orientation, 3 hours of online training (including sexual abuse prevention), and on-the-job training.

Scheduling Availability: 3-hour shifts available Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. Preference is given to volunteers who can commit to weekly service.

Location: 3200 Sanguinet St, Fort Worth

Time Commitment: 6-month minimum with at least 20 hours in that time.

Teach Our Teens

Description: Share your passion, skill, or profession with young adults by showcasing your exciting hobby, job, or culture.

Duties: Prepare and present your specialty to teens in our Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP), potentially including an interactive activity or craft.

Prerequisites: Application, interview, background check, orientation, online training (including sexual abuse prevention), and an interactive lesson plan.

Scheduling Availability: Coordinate with our director to set a schedule that works for you and the students, ideally during school hours (11 AM to 2 PM, Monday to Thursday). Plan 1-2 months in advance. Sessions can be one-time, annual, or more frequent, depending on your topic and availability.

Location: 3131 Sanguinet St, Fort Worth

Time Commitment: 3 classes, each 45 minutes long

Other Details: Examples of classes include professions (doctor, artist), cultures (Hanukkah, Lunar New Year), hobbies (boxing, photography), and life skills (cooking, self-defense). Our students come from diverse backgrounds and may have limited exposure to your topic, so engaging presentations are encouraged. For safety, volunteers cannot be alone with a child; Lena Pope staff will always be present.


Birthday Expert

Description: Help our Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program teens feel special by celebrating their birthdays with treats and gifts.

Duties: Provide treats, cards, and small gifts for each student celebrating their birthday each month.

Prerequisites: Application, interview, background check, orientation, and online training (including sexual abuse prevention).

Scheduling Availability: Be available once a month during a school day to distribute gifts and treats. This can be a one-time opportunity or a multi-month commitment based on your availability.

Location: 3131 Sanguinet St, Fort Worth

Time Commitment: 1 to 2 hours a month

Other Details: Our students come from diverse backgrounds and may have limited birthday celebrations. You’ll receive details about each student to personalize their celebration. For safety, volunteers cannot be alone with a child; Lena Pope staff will always be present.


Chapel Greeter

Description: This quiet volunteer position is perfect for those who prefer minimal social interaction while serving as a welcoming presence for guests at the Marty Leonard Community Chapel.

Duties: Greet visitors, assist with planned tours, keep the chapel tidy, learn the history and significance of the chapel, and familiarize yourself with emergency and security procedures.

Prerequisites: Application, interview, background checks, orientation, and 3 hours of online training (including sexual abuse prevention).

Scheduling Availability: 3-hour shifts available Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. Preference is given to volunteers who can commit to weekly service.

Deep Clean the Chapel

Description: We are seeking groups to help deep clean the Marty Leonard Community Chapel, both indoors and outdoors, to keep our beautiful facility sparkling.

Duties:

  • Indoors: Clean walls, dust surfaces, polish pews, wash windows, remove scuffs, and clean wax from the altar.
  • Outdoors: Pick up trash, sweep walkways,  leaf blow (optional, would require you to bring your own leaf blower), polish the statue, and wash windows.

Prerequisites: Sign up, interview, and complete safety waivers.

Scheduling Availability: Arrange a cleaning day for a couple of hours with your group.

Location: 3131 Sanguinet St., Fort Worth

Time Commitment: One day, 2-4 hours depending on the number of people in the group

Other Details: Ideal for 5-8 people, taking 2-3 hours. We can provide space for team-building activities, and you may order lunch to eat on-site. Tours of our campus and services are available. Liability waivers are required, and for safety, no ladders or stools will be used—clean as high as you can! Please bring your own water bottle.


Get Connected with Heart of Texas Therapy Dogs

Description: Join our team of Heart of Texas Therapy Dogs handlers and their wonderful canines who volunteer to support students and families during therapy sessions. If you and your furry friend want to help your community, we can guide you on how to get involved.

Duties: To learn more about participation, visit: Heart of Texas Therapy Dogs

Prerequisites: Complete the training and certification process to sign up as an Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) handler and volunteer with Lena Pope and all over Texas.

Lena Pope hosts various events that rely on volunteers to enhance our experiences. For our Trunk-or-Treat events at our Early Learning Centers (ELC), we’re in need of face painters, temporary tattoo artists, and other fun activities to add to the spooky atmosphere! In the spring, we also seek volunteers to help with grilling and serving food at our ELC Picnics.
