Volunteer FAQs

How do I become a Lena Pope volunteer?

If you are interested in one of our recurring roles (coming to volunteer multiple times), we ask that you fill out our Volunteer Application. We will contact you to set up an interview to see how you want to help and how we can make that happen. Our recurring volunteers all must go through a background check, orientation, and online training to best serve our families and clients. If you have specific questions about our volunteer opportunities or are interested in one-time volunteer opportunities or service projects, please contact Courtney Wrobel for guidance.

Are there different types of volunteer opportunities?

Yes! We wanted to provide a wide variety of opportunities to suit the needs and availability of our volunteers.

Single Serve opportunities – these placements are for if an individual, a group, or a company want to help and can dedicate a day to serve. Examples of our single-serve opportunities include deep cleaning our community chapel and being a birthday expert for our JJAEP teens!

We’re also looking for talented face painters, temporary tattoo artists, grill masters, and other skilled individuals to elevate our Trunk-or-Treat events in the fall and our Early Learning Center picnics in the spring!

Recurring opportunities – these placements are more for individuals who can dedicate to serving monthly, weekly, or daily over at least 6 months of time. Examples of our recurring opportunities include our receptionist position, administrative assistance, being a guest speaker to teach a class for our ELC and JJAEP students, ELC assistants, and chapel docents.

Several opportunities can overlap and be single-serve or recurring such as teaching a class or being our birthday expert. If you have questions about flexibility on an opportunity, please contact Courtney.

Is there an age limit for volunteers?

We ask that our individual volunteers be 18 or older.

We do have groups such as the Girl Scouts, National Honor Societies, and church youth groups reach out to help. We ask that volunteers between ages 13-17 be supervised by parents, guardians at all times. If your teen’s group wants to help at Lena Pope, please contact Courtney.

Do you have a minimum service commitment for volunteers?

If you intend to volunteer more than twice within a 90-day period, we ask you to complete at least 20 hours of volunteer work within 6 months.

Are there other ways to get involved at Lena Pope?

Absolutely! We are working to form a Professional Association called the Lena Pope Advocates. Email Courtney if you’re interested to hear more!

Can Lena Pope help me earn volunteer hours for my school, troop, or group?

Absolutely! While we request individual volunteers to be at least 18 years old, we welcome student volunteers for service projects, events, and other volunteer opportunities. We ask that volunteers under 18 always have a parent or guardian with them during their volunteer service.

Does Lena Pope offer court-ordered community service?

Not at this time. Please visit our friends at Volunteer Now for help: https://www.volnow.org/csr

Does it cost any money to volunteer with Lena Pope?

At this time, Lena Pope is incurring the fees needed to screen and train our recurring volunteers. We are always accepting donations to support our mission! Please click here if you would like to help with these costs.
