This May, during Mental Health Awareness Month, you have an opportunity to double your impact for children and families who need support right now.
Thanks to a generous group of Lena Pope Board members, your gift will be matched this month — doubling all gifts up to $20,000.
Your gift today helps ensure that counseling is available when a family reaches out — regardless of their ability to pay.
A gift of $50 becomes $100 to help provide a counseling session for a child — offering guidance, connection, and support during a time when it matters most.
At Lena Pope, counseling is available regardless of a family’s ability to pay, helping children build emotional skills, strengthening relationships at home, and creating a path forward together.
Because when support is available at the right time, it creates moments that help families move forward.
Making Care Possible for Children Like Joey

Joey was adopted by his forever family when he was eight years old.
Like many children who have spent time in the foster care system, he struggled to feel safe and connected. He was easily overwhelmed and often reacted by shutting down or becoming upset. This made it difficult to build trust, even with a family who loved him deeply.
When Joey first came to Lena Pope for counseling, he hid under the table and refused to participate.
But his counselor met him where he was.
Through patience, consistency, and care, Joey began to feel safe enough to engage. His counselor also worked with his parents to help them better understand his needs and build a stronger connection at home.
Over time, Joey started to trust. He began to believe that his family cared for him and wanted to support him. And one day, he did something he hadn’t done before—he chose to talk with his mom instead of shutting down.
It was a meaningful moment for his family. A moment that might seem small to other families was a sign that things were beginning to move forward.
Today, Joey is thriving. He is now in middle school, no longer in special education classes, and is an honor student. He has strong relationships with his family and the skills to build healthy relationships throughout his life.
Thank you for choosing to give so children like Joey can receive the counseling they need.
